My interest in using non-chemical,
non-insecticide products in the home environment
started back in 1990 when I was diagnosed with chronic
fatigue syndrome.
What does that mean? Simply that by using cleaners,
fly sprays, cosmetics and the many other 'ordinary'
products around my home that contained chemicals
(and that means carpets!) my body had absorbed a
whole lot of toxins.
As a result I was so tired that I couldn't get out
of bed - a big challenge for an active fun-loving
person who loves experiencing life to the full!
Since then I have only used natural and chemical-free
products and furnishings, and ensure that I have
NO carpet in my living environment (all wall-to-wall
carpet contains formaldehyde). It has made a remarkable
difference to my state of health and enabled me
to live life to the full once again.
We all want to protect our health, and that of our
family and friends - what better way to start than
by ensuring that our own home environment is safe,
comfortable and toxin free.

Giving
Back
As an avid traveller in most continents of the world,
a passionate environmentalist and animal lover,
I believe that it is important to give back to the
world what we take from it when operating a business.
Our canopies are manufactured in China, a culture
where the cost of living is low in comparison to
ours here in New Zealand or other developed countries.
This allows us to provide our Pure Living Canopies
to you at very affordable prices.
Our way of 'giving back' to China is to donate money
to the Animal Asia Foundation
- China Bear Rescue Fund.
Pure Living donates 10% of our profits each year
towards saving the Moon bears in China, (from the
cruel practice of bear farming for their bile) and
their rehabilitation back into the wild.

The Story
of the pure living Canopy
While on holiday in Samoa in 2003 and sleeping under
beautiful mosquito net canopies in traditional thatched
beach fales, I was struck by both the romance of
the canopies and the wonderful practicality of them.
Simple, beautiful, inexpensive and I didn't have
to douse myself with poisonous substances or inhale
toxic fumes in order to beat the mosquito's.
I decided it was time to put my ideas about providing
alternatives to a chemical laden life into action,
and that these canopies would be my first product.
So the Pure Living Canopy was born!
